What is life without happiness? Everyone get's down and out once in a while but it's important not to get consumed by your unhappiness. With the help of WebMD, I came up with a list of ways to help you become a happier person!
1.) DECIDE TO BE HAPPY
The first step to become a happier you is the decision to do so! The fact that you've made the conscious decision to be a happier person is definitely a foot in the right direction.
Each morning, make a mental list of a few things you're grateful for. It can be the smallest to the biggest thing! This morning I was grateful to wake up in a warm bed, have money to buy my iced coffee, and a job to go to.
It is a scientific fact that people who hold grudges are unhappier than those who do not. It can be difficult to do, but forgive those who hurt you. This doesn't mean becoming their friend, it mean's not having anger towards them. Don't let their poor decisions affect your life anymore. Forgive and move on - but don't forget!
4.) MONEY CAN'T BUY HAPPINESS
I repeat -- MONEY CAN'T BUY HAPPINESS! The minute you stop comparing materialistic items other people have to the items you have, you'll become happier. It's great to have nice things but don't get so caught up in it! Accept what you have and actually be grateful for it.
Hold friendship close to your heart. Say peace out to negative relationships and people who don't appreciate you. Do not count your friends - the number doesn't matter, the way they make you feel does.
6.) ENGAGE IN MEANINGFUL ACTIVITIES
Put your phone down once in a while! Make time to do self-improving activities. This can be anything from yoga to sipping on wine and having a therapy session with friends. Anything that lets you de-stress in a healthy way.
7.) SAY GOODBYE TO NEGATIVE THOUGHTS
It's natural that negative thoughts enter your mind. But try to counteract them! For example, say you're going to a party where you don't know anyone and thought's like "I'm going to be so awkward, no one will talk to me" enter your mind, counteract them! Counteract them with positive thoughts - even if you don't think they're true. Say to yourself "this is going to be a lot of fun and I'm going to meet a lot of people". Just having that mind-set when going into the party will make you have a much better time.
Hopefully these few things help you in becoming a happier person! Don't be afraid to notice you're unhappiness and be proactive about changing it.
Never give up,
